Swallow Hill Music

A Cultural Gem of the Rockies: Celebrating 30 Years of the Best Roots Music

Many times over my musical life...I have reached plateaus in my playing and felt like I would never be able to play anything NEW or different. Then suddenly, with a flash of understanding, the fretboard opens itself up to me in a big way and I learn a bunch of new vocabulary to express myself with.
That is really how I see it too...Vocabulary. Scales and Chords and Arpeggios are Vocabulary and Grammar and such....if you want to express yourself you need to know MUCH. Remember when you went home with Vocabulary words...maybe you still do.

This just happened to me again over the last day or two! I am seeing the guitar in a way that I never could before! It won't stop either...as long as I continue to search. Amazing.

As I have been teaching at Swallow Hill the biggest rewards for ME have been watching the light bulbs turn on over your heads!

Remember....you don't need to tell me that you are sorry if you can't play something or make a mistake...that's what you are here for. Just keep on PLAYING. Eventually the fingers WILL be trained. It takes a LONG time to learn how to speak.

Great post...hopefully it will spur me to start learning new vocabulary too. I LOVE YOU and I'm so glad you have been happy creating things. It's awesome to be part of your musical world.
