Monday night in my MODES class , I saw the Bulbs Light up above my students heads and a twinkle in their eyes as they suddenly realized that they sounded good and they even knew what they were doing!
These moments are the ones that we ALL play for and that all of us teachers teach for!
When suddenly we see our instrument thru new eyes, when the options that we had for expressing ourselves grow exponentially, it sends a thrill through our being that is as close to Nirvana as one will get...because that's exactly what it is!
I would like to about YOUR moments!~ Please share them here and inspire us all!
I was one of the light-bulb-bearers the other night in The Modes. Modes have always been a mystery to me but this class makes them accessible. We were working on the Mixolydian, and the intro melody to China Cat Sunflower literally stumbled out of my guitar. I memorized it by brute force years ago, then largely forgot it. I've been trying to emulate (okay, steal) Jerry Garcia's style and lines for years, with some success, but I feel like I'm on my way this time. I recommend this class for anyone who plays lead guitar and feels like they are reworking the same old tired ideas.
