Mary Stribling & Combo Amazo CD Release

Mother Folkers founder, singer/songwriter and faculty member releases her latest recording -- Mary Stribling and Combo Amazo is a quartet that plays their originals (no covers!) with Stribling on string bass and vocals, Eric Weber on mandolin, Alan Singer on guitar and accordion, and Harry Grainger on sax, flute and clarinet.

Eight of the tunes on Mary's new CD comprise a “Colorado Song Cycle:” “Argentine Pass,” the “Oh Be Joyful Wilderness” (an account of the slaying of the last wolf in Colorado), the legend of the ghostly “La Llorona” and the sound of the mountain snowmelt in the spring were some of the inspirations for these songs.

This album also features some of the songs Stribling performed over the years as a founding member of Colorado's legendary group, the Mother Folkers. Included on this CD are her songs "King Kong" (she made up a much happier ending for the big guy), "The Whale Chanty" ( a whaling song from the whale's point of view) and "Chocolate," which was recorded by the Chenille Sisters which they performed as guests on A Prairie Home Companion.

Rocky Mountain News said "Much like Lyle Lovett, Mary Stribling’s wide ranging musical styles aren't easy to pin down. Like Lovett, she makes a seamless leap from jazz to folk.....And Stribling is as adept at ripping out your heart and handing it to you as she is at drawing a grin."
